You may have
an infection that is causing
your
diarrhoea
& vomiting.
Bacteria
and viruses (germs) can be found in the earth,
on
animals, on raw foods (fruit, vegetables & meat), in
the
water and on people!
Most germs
are harmless but some can cause infection
and this can lead to
diarrhoea and vomiting.
Diarrhoea and
vomiting infections are usually of
short
duration, but please tell your doctor if
you experience
diarrhoea with blood, or if the illness continues longer than 48 hours.
Your doctor may
request that you
provide a stool sample to find out
what type of infection you have.
This
makes sure
you get the correct treatment for the infection
and
helps prevent it spreading to others in the community.
If you have an infection
with Diarrhoea & Vomiting you must drink plenty of simple fluids
e.g. plain boiled, cooled water, or Rehydration Mixture [your
Pharmacist will have this]. Resting will help your body fight the
infection -- it is sensible to limit your activities.
Please
stay off work, school or nursery until at least 2 days after the
diarrhoea
stops, and/or until
your
doctor says you are fit – this can take longer if you
need to have clear specimens for
different
kinds of infection or because of the
type of job you do
